Fitness Fanatic

Hey, so I guess this would count as an epic fail. After deciding to blog about my life, I only have one entry. Oh, well here goes at getting the ball rolling, as they say, "a journey of a 1000 miles, begins with one small step" and by they I mean an ancient Chinese philosopher.

Well I have been blogging about my diet/fitness regime, which I have been following for 2 months now, I feel great, and apparently look it too, so its definitely having some success, still no sign of the elusive six pack though :(

I guess I'll just have to keep at it. I recently listened to an audio book (the first one I have ever listened to!) which basically said that if you want to achieve something, you should start by taking small changes, and implementing them every day. I guess that's what I'm doing with regards my fitness, and its definitely paying off! I ran the Peninsula Helpers Run on Sunday, and clocked in a time of 2:18:10 a full minute faster than my previous personal best. The achievement was slightly marred by the fact that I took an accidental short cut. I was closely following one of the club stalwarts, not really thinking at all, he was on the marathon route, while I was merely doing the half, but the good thing about following someone is that then you don't really have to think about where to go, you just follow the person in front of you. So I was doing this, trusting the route to the more experienced runner, when I looked up, and saw a view that I didn't recognise (given that I have done this race 5-6 times, this was a surprise!!!). We had cut one of the corners, then the guy in front of me started walking, so I decided, while I didn't need to walk, if I was taking a a shortcut, I had better walk, so my time reflected correctly what I should have done. The short cut was not hectic, it only cut out 250
m, but I was ashamed to have made it. I calculate if I run 6 minutes a km, I would run 250m in 1.5 minutes, so really I shouldn't count it as a PB, despite the fact I did walk for about a minute or so, when I really could have been running. I just hope that my next half marathon is less than 2:19. However to buoy my mood, after running a 5km on Monday, today at the time trial I ran a 26:46, which blows my 5km time right out of the water!!! So at least that's a PB I can really count on, and that means I ran 5km at a pace of 5:21 per km, which is super fast! If I could run at 5:41 for the distance of a half marathon, I could break the elusive 2 hour barrier! I am just aiming for 6mins/km, which would place me at 2:07 below the 2:15 mark, hell, I would even go for just 6:23, which would just place me below the 2:15 mark. I guess I should aim for 6:15 to make up for lost time at the start...

And on the Penisula run, I decided that I would do my first Marathon in 2012, and would try and qualify for the Two Oceans in 2013, to complete a goal that has been in the pipeline for some time! With this regard I am going to have to start training now. I need to seriously up my game!!!

Oh, well that's it for now, hopefully it won't be another month before I post again!

Mark's Awesome Life

So after some comments that people enjoyed reading my USA adventure blog, I have decided to make a general one, one that is not specific, and just post everything here. Like having an AWESOME  day wine tasting and then beach going. Or scoffing down almost 500g of chocolates before a race on Saturday, and then proceeding to run a personal best. These are noteworthy events in the life of Mark, but not in the least the only things going on. I have decided that I am going to take control of my life, I have started a diet/excercise regime which will give me control over how healthy I am and I am investigating a bussiness opportunity which may lead me towards financial freedom! There are several changes going on in my life, maybe its time to record them, so future generations can learn from my Awesomeness, or just bask in my glow...

... And with that I conclude the first posting in what is soon to become an epic blog of Mark's Awesome Life!
